Republican Mayor Troy Brimage Announces Candidacy for Texas State House
Lifelong Republican and Mayor of Freeport, Troy Brimage today announced his candidacy for Texas State House District 25, the seat being vacated by State Rep. Dennis Bonnen. House District 25 covers a large portion of Brazoria County including the cities of Angleton, Freeport, and Lake Jackson as well as all of Matagorda County.
“We need someone who will step up to tackle property tax reform, stand for the unborn, get real solutions for school funding, defend the Second Amendment, build infrastructure to address flooding, and uphold our conservative values,” Brimage said. “I’ve fought to drain the swamp, fight high taxes, and improve the lives of residents as Freeport Mayor and I’m looking forward to doing the same for all of Texas.”
Brimage served as a Freeport police officer before he and his wife started and operated a series of successful local small businesses. As a business owner, Brimage knows firsthand the importance of cutting bad taxes and regulation that hurt growth and job creation.
In addition to being Mayor, Brimage has served on the Brazosport ISD school board and continues his law enforcement role as Captain of the reserve division for the Freeport Police Department.
As Mayor, Troy Brimage has earned a reputation for cracking down on corruption and making government run like a business with lean budgets and fiscally conservative spending. Just three months after his election as Mayor, Brimage exposed an embezzlement scandal with the city manager involving hundreds of thousands of stolen tax dollars.
In the wake of scandal, Brimage worked with the city’s existing resources to keep within the city budget, doing what it took to provide city services and infrastructure while protecting taxpayers. To this day, he has never allowed an increase in Freeport’s tax rate.
“People talk about what needs to be done all the time, but no one takes that extra step to get it done,” Brimage said. “I’m running to be the guy who takes that extra step and I hope I can count on your vote in the Republican Primary.”
Troy and his wife Sabrina are the proud parents of twins, who they have raised with the same conservative values that guide Troy every day. The Brimages are members at Family Life Church in Lake Jackson.
